It's rainy days like today that make me fantasise about bikes with full fenders, and possibly a front rack.

My commuter has done about 7 years of service, and while the zefal flamingo does solid work out back, water splashing off the seat tube and down tube makes me far wetter than I feel is necessary. There's a tonne of geared frames out there, some beautiful creations of steel or carbon, but I actually don't want a gears, nor do I want a nice bike.

I want a bike that I can be locked to a metal pole with little thought about it being a target for theft. I want trusty parts that will continue to work through season after season, but still retaining some elegance. For instance, I have a set of old/used Dura Ace 7800 cranks hanging out, a relic of my Trek Madone that has since gone to heaven. They'd make a bloody solid and reliable crank... but even at close to 8 years old... they're a bit too nice.

Anyway, sitting around with slightly damp and chilled feet, makes a bike with full fenders sound bloody good.
