HCC Crit:
I'd hoped that last week's HCC painfest would have resulted in some nice adaptation, and that this week I'd be able to contest the finish or make/cover a few moves.

I made the first move, giving it a bit of stick out of the corner as we rounded to complete the first lap. No one came with me, so when I approached the corner the next lap, and the whole bunch was being lead to me, I sat up.

From that point onwards, I sat in, trying to conserve energy in the heat and wind, yet despite my best effort to lack effort, I was fairly squarely in the box. I tried hard not to look at my numbers, and just coax my way through the race, telling myself to just get this climb done, or hang onto that wheel on the flat, but in review the data backs up the feelings of suffering.

At the end, I was mentally and physically done. I asked a few mates if they had any legs, knowing that I could probably lift a tiny amount if I was in the service of someone else, but they all said they were done, so I tailed off the bunch as we hit the bottom straight. There was no point me trying to make up ground from the back.

Post race I rolled to Southbank with a few boys, to catch the end of the Herald Sun Tour Prologue. As we rolled over Princess bridge and down St Kilda rd a little bunch of the racers joined us. They were pretty much the current or next crop of international stars, and most of them ex mountain bikers.

#152 Nathan Elliott, #16 Steele Von Hoff, #12 Thomas Dekker, #14 Nathan Hass, #13 Rohan Dennis, #122 Joe Cooper, #123 Anthony Giacoppo, #25 Matej Mahoric (not pictured), #54 Lachlan Norris (not pictured), a commuter (not pictured) who despite my cajoling refused to attack the bunch.
