St Kilda East - Mt Pleasant - Morilla - Pigeon Bank - Yarra Glen - Chum Creek - Smiths Gully - Kinglake - St Kilda East:
I knew this was going to be a big day, it didn't disappoint. Dave and I had both had a few more beers than were strictly necessary yesterday, and Dave had an extra ITT in his legs that meant I was competitive.

By 10am we'd done a bunch of punchy climbing and were seated in Yarra Glen with a whole carrot cake to share between the two of us.

By midday we were at Kinglake bakery after looping out through Healseville. A chocolate milk, a meat pie, and a newspaper stuffed down my jersey had me set for the descent and the start of the trip home.

By the time I was rolling into home I'd clocked up over 170km and 3,000m vertical. If you'd asked me, heck even if you'd looked in my general direction, I would have told you it was the hardest 170km I could remember doing. We'd pushed hard on the punchy climbs, but once we started climbing up and over to Yarra glen it was just tempo riding. In other words I'm not sure why it felt so hard, just a the first really long day in a while I suppose.

There's a week for my body to take today's training stress and make it into fitness. Then it's off to Creswick for the Fred Icke. Oh man, handicap racing.... what have I done?
