6am NRR:
Last night Bones sent me a message, enquiring if I'd be doing what has become a standard Thursday thing

"Northy in the am?"

I was buoyed by the happy feelings yesterday's ride left me in, I was feeling strong, so I replied in a way that seemed witty and indicative of my place in the world of Melbourne bunch rides.

"yeah man. there's punters that need hurting."

Well that wasn't really how it went, in fact if being hurt on the ride is a yard stick by which we measure someone's punterdom, then I most definitely am not tall enough to go on the mixed metaphors ride.

It started when I rolled towards the front. DK pulled out and over the top a little in front of me, meaning that I had to get over him to complete my journey. That hurt.

Then, a little further down the road, the bunch was split by some lights and I was in the second half. I started to get myself mentally prepared for some hard work with a few others. Instead DK rolled to the front and single handedly pulled anyone capable of holding onback up to the front bunch. That hurt.

After Mordi guys continued to string things out in the cross/tail wind, it hurt but I was finding wheels to sit on that eased the load. Then the scooter, I assume the same one as last winter and the winter before, swung through and paced the bunch at 50km/h. That hurt.

I was quite happy to not contend the sprint, I was too far back and besides I far too shagged. Then the strung out bunch was caught by the Glen Huntly lights... so I rolled to the front, told Sausage to get on my wheel and hit it hard on the green. I pulled through to around 300m to go, then at 54km/h, I swung left to release... crap, they'd all missed my wheel. That hurt.
