I've been asked a lot about a current topic, and I suppose it's reached a point where I want to write down some ideas.

It's not about the bloke:
When I was a kid I rode my bike because my brothers rode their bikes. I rode with school mates, and I rode by myself. I liked the freedom, the wind in my hair and I really likes doing coaster brake skids on gravel roads

Many years passed after my adventures on that chrome and yellow bmx with cobra grips that I bought of my elder brother's mate from down the street. The most pivotal was I got fat.

Eventually after a while of being fat, I decided that wasn't for me, so I decided to get un fat. I remembered riding as a kid and the fun I'd had, so I bugged the shit out of my mate Steve (i knew he'd raced mtb's before) and ended up on my first hard tail. Then some time later I ended up at my first race, one that over the space of 2 days and 5 stages reduced me to a hollow shell and showed me just how far from being a decent rider I was.

There was a similar story when it came to becoming a roadie... and a trackie.... and a cross dresser rider. I talked to people who I sort of knew, leveraged off their advice and jumped in without knowing too much about how deep the water was or how fast it flowed.... or really where to end a metaphor.

So back to current events, it's a shame that some guys who I've never met took unfair measures to win in a sport I love, but at the end of the day, that has far less effect on me than learning a mate has been doing secret training. Now, that's some earth shattering news!
