6am NRR:
I wanted to ride my little ring for the southward leg of the trip, a task achieved a few times in the past and one that seemed feasible again today. 46km/h had my hips a little wobbly, but it was workable. The extra 6km/h that Dave Kelly put on the bunch's speed after Southland, were not workable in the little ring and extra teeth up front were called into action.

A split in the bunch for lights at Lower Dandy Rd lead to me seeing the front earlier than hoped, thankfully Dave Sewell and a Charter Mason rider took up most of the challenge to get us back before the turn. That "early" work hurt, but was manageable, I felt ok, but not good. In other words, I think I was still a bit leggy from the weekend's drinking racing. My attempts from then on to get to the front were half hearted. I spent a lot of time behind indecisive dudes who looked like they might roll the next turn, but ended up never doing so. Still I managed to come through a couple of times towards Brighton... enough to take any remaining sprint from my legs.

Over coffee it was remarked that crits start in 10 weeks. Right now I'm wondering what state I'll front up to the Warny in, contemplating racing crits is beyond my brain and abilities right now.
