Prahran - Mt Pleasant - Strathewen - Yarrraglen - Prahran:
23c tyres and a 50t chainring on my CX bike was as close to a road bike as I was going to get today, and that was enough to get me out on my first road ride in weeks.

Pete and Will were kind enough to let me tag along with them as once past Mt Pleasant Rd they adventured down roads none of us had seen before.

Many of these roads turned to hard packed dirt, most of them features climbs upwards of 20% gradients, all of them stretched me to my limit. Rather, it was the boys that stretched me, the road became culpable when it failed to intervene despite my obviously laboured breathing and rocketing heart rate.

Still, climbs where my forward progress seemed more limited by the strength / endurance of my arms rather than that of my legs aside, it was a lovely day to be on a bike. The forecast showers never got close enough to wet us, and the sun popped out to ease our roll through apple orchard lined back roads.

I was glad when Will's legs finally gave in after a morning of treating hills and myself with disdain, it meant the the last 10km of the roll to home and a massive feed was done at a leisurely pace.
