Spoke(n) Ride:
Due to the Baw Baw Classic and Northern Combine's first road race, numbers were down for the Spoke(n) ride, in fact we had more for the fatties ride mid week.

Despite a pre-ride coffee no one seemed overly eager to ride tempo, so we found a bunch going roughly the right speed and slotted ourselves on the back for a free tow down to Mordi.

Standing at Mordi, waiting for Ryan to re-arrange his attire someone quipped "so are we just going to wait for another bunch to sit on", I wasn't really sure the answer. I didn't want to work, but sitting on a bunch for 40-50km seemed like a waste. The situation resolved itself pretty quickly when a sole (random) rider passed us. My brain started with "oh cool, someone to pace off" to "oh fuckit, chase him down and sit on his wheel" and finally to "screw this, time to hurt that bastard!"

The solo rider an I spent the next 20km swapping long turns on the front, sharing the work pretty evenly on both the hills and the flats, right back into the teeth of the savage northerly.

I don't know who the solo dude was, but I'm grateful for him turning up and giving me a reason to push. From the few short words we spoke and his parting grin, I think the feeling was mutual.
