I was not eager to get up at 6am. I was not eager to spend 90 minutes in the car. I was not eager to ride hard. Still, I wanted to ride with mates, and it'd been ages since I'd visited the wombat loop at Woodend.

What followed next was not a standard ride around the Wombat loop before retiring to a bakery for a pie and sausage roll. No, Jim, Gav and I were set for an adventure to make even Bill and Ted say "excellent".

Paul Randell, having moved up to Woodend 8 months ago, was able to link through trails we'd ridden many times before, trails we'd only seen during the BMC 100 and trails we had no idea even existed.

Clay, sand, loam, wide, narrow, on camber, off camber, gum forest, pine forest.... the combinations seemed endless. Where the hell are we?!

Paul hurt us all day long, I did my best to chase his wheel, sometimes losing it, other times sticking like glue. Even when it all came unstuck, leaving me sliding and rolling in the dirt at 40kph, I couldn't have been happier. Though it might have been nice to graze a different leg to the one from Wednesday.
