I've said it before, I'll say it again, commuting on a mountain bike amuses me. Doing monos and stoppies in bumper to bumper traffic just seems.... naughty. All those poor saps stuck in cars forced to watch me have fun.

Flat Hill Dirt Crits:
The first few laps felt pretty settled, we had a train of 6 blokes, James Dickey on the front, me on the back. Slowly people decided that James' pace wasn't high enough and went around, establishing a small break.

Just as the mind was starting to consider what the body would have to do to get around James and chase those up the trail, Brett binned it in front of me. I slammed on the brakes, fired a quick "you alright" then searched for a suitable way to get around the carnage. Brett, I'm sorry, I wasn't really as concerned about your well being as I could have been. ;)

Once past Brett I had a gap to Jay Woo, and not a huge amount of motivation to close it. I tried for a few laps but from what I could see it wasn't getting any less. I picked up the pace a little for the last 3 laps, and on the final lap caught sight of Bellie not far in front. Jay Woo had gotten past Bellie, and it seems despite feeling like I was going backwards I was in fact catching the rider in front. I hold no illusion that I would have been able to get around Bellie if I'd caught him, he's too wily a racer.

So another 4th, perhaps I'll need to be a bit more aggressive at the start to secure a better track position.... but not so good that I get first and end up disheartened if I get passed.
